Kenny Giddens

Kenny was murdered in 1988. This is information that was provided by his sister, Lisa -

My brother and a bunch friends were at 21st between 145th and 161st (the water area) when a car drove up. They thought it was 2 girls because of the long hair. They asked the 2 girls if they wanted to hang out with them and have a few drinks. 1 of the girls turned out to be a boy who was from East Central. (he was 2 years older then my brother) He was upset and left in his car went to his apartment, loaded a gun and told his girlfriend he was going to teach those kids a lesson. Returned to the same area, got out of his car and shot of his gun. Told the group of people with my brother not to move and shot his gun off again over their heads. My brother put Raina behind him to protect her and when Jason Nicholson moved to go toward the stupid gunman my brother went to help and that's when the stupid guy shot him in his leg. (six inches from his groan in his main artery) The rest of the guys jumped the gunman and beat him up. They put my brother in the car and tried to stop the bleeding but it was too late. His last words to Jason Nicholson telling him he loved him.

He is now with his grandparents, parents and his nephew in heaven watching over the rest of his family and friends.

I remember when Kenny moved to town. I had the biggest crush on him then. He was the class clown and always made me laugh. I know that he was taken from us way too soon but I know that he is looking out for his family and friends now.

(Kenny lived only half a block up the street from us behind Target by Eastland Mall we went to the grand opening of Eastland-Mall together where the "Judds" played in the food court.. I still got the pin they gave us)Kenny and I were good friends since around 6th grade Cooper he later became closer friends with my brother Jason although I believe he was an equal brother in my house He and I shared the same Birthday 12-09-1969 and my mom loving Kenny like a son got us a job together (since we would not go to school) pouring concrete for a guy building swimming pools in south Tulsa he picked us up we worked about an hour it was brutal work... Kenny gave me a look and I nodded yes and we took off on foot laughing all the way down the street...that job sucked..we had so much in common maybe that is why he and Jason became closer he was the indian version of me! LOL! he was my brother and I miss those times I spent with him. My Mom gave us a Big 18th Birthday party together at a local adult night-club that I will not name.. we had a live band play and Kenny was there sportin' the "Boz" haircut as Jason was they always cracked me up he was such a fun loving kid..who always was looking to get a laugh he and Jason were just nuts together...oh the stories I could tell...about those crazy nights that we went out terrorizing Tulsa...I have told my son only about a few of the more tame things we used to do...like cruising the Fontana in his cousins old boat of a car...but not the one of the time when Kenny picked a fight with a car load of guys that were tailgaiting us at 31st and 129th his cousin pulled over and they had bats and tire tools Kenny and I took on all six guys (his cousin drove off) we whooped 'em some of them even ran into the nearby apartments to escape the beating we were inflicting upon them (true story)...Kenny had a way of making me laugh that no one could he had a real funny way of saying the craziest things while keeping a straight face.. at our age that was so damn funny;D
Oh how I cried when I got the News...I was unconsolable and could not sleep for days it was very rare that I was not with them the night it happened. I was working..I could not believe it when my mom and two sisters came to me with tears in there eyes to tell me the news.. I believe I was in shock for many days and to this day if I here LLCool-J's "I Need Love" the song Lisa had them play at his funeral service, I get all teared up... like right now ..I miss you Kenny! I just know you are keeping my momma laughing in heaven. We will all be together again one day:) God Bless and thanks for the community service buddy:)

I had already moved to Owasso when all of this took place, but when I learned of what had happened I cried. Kenny was always one of those guys that you had to automatically love because of the way he was the way he could make you laugh and make you feel important. We played football together, Brian, Jason and Kenny and I, those were some of the best times I can remember and then in some math class in Foster Kenny and I would always cut up and of course he would want to see my homework too, but I remember getting in allot of trouble in that class with him. I think that paddle may still have our butt prints on it, he always laughed after they swung on us......I think it just pissed that teacher off more than ever. I remember that if I ever had a problem that was too big for me to handle that Kenny, Jason, or Brian were always there for me. I have not and will never forget Kenny and his crazy ass ways of entertaining everyone!

Alex Wilson

I was in San Diego with Kenny's friend Scott Oelke when he died. Scott returned to Tulsa immediately upon getting the call and my cousin Michael and I remained on vacation, but much more subdued and thoughtful. I didn't know Kenny very well personally, but I was acquainted with him as I was most of our classmates. Still, I'll never forget that day. Some of our innocence was lost that day.
